What do you like most about tutoring?
My two favorite things about tutoring: witnessing the moment when a complicated concept finally clicks in a student’s mind and seeing students’ confidence grow every week.
What subjects do you enjoy tutoring the most?
My favorite subjects to tutor are chemistry and calculus. They have a reputation for being the hardest classes, so it is rewarding to see students become confident with these topics.
What did you major in at college, and what was your favorite class?
I was a chemistry major in college and proceeded to get my MS and PhD in chemistry from the University of Chicago. Although I loved chemistry classes, my favorite class in college was a brass music class, where I learned to play the trumpet and trombone. Getting to annoy/serenade my roommates was an added joy
What were your favorite extra-curricular activities in high school or college?
In college, I was involved in a group that started a chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, a music fraternity. We hosted music events on campus, did outreach in the community, and performed together. It was a great way to stay connected to the musicians on campus, even though I was a chemistry major.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love running (ran my first marathon last year!), skiing, and going on long walks with my dog, Geo.
What’s your favorite book, song (or band), snack food?
These are always changing… But at this moment, my favorite book is The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin. Favorite song is This Must Be The Place by The Talking Heads. And favorite snack food is Ruffles.
Tell us about a favorite vacation.
Copenhagen, Denmark. I got engaged on a little electric boat that my partner and I struggled to operate through the river there. We went to Legoland, saw Swan Lake performed by The Royal Danish Theater, and shared some amazing food. It will be a tough vacation to beat.
If you could have a coffee with any person dead or alive, who would you choose, and why?
Aaron Boone. We would have a tough conversation about all the ways he could improve how he manages my favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees.
Salty or sweet person? What is your favorite salty/sweet snack?
Why not both? I love a sea salt and caramel combo.
Please tell us more fun facts about yourself!
I’m a big fan of the reality TV show, Survivor. If you have an in with Jeff Probst to get me on the show, let me know.
